Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre - Queensland
Also available in presentation mode…
The Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre – Queensland is one of two disease-specific, consolidated national prostate cancer research centres. An initiative between the Queensland University of Technology and the Princess Alexandra Hospital, the APCRC – Q works closely with the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre being established at Victoria's Epworth Hospital (APCRC @ Epworth). It was awarded a $7.5 million Commonwealth grant from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing in 2009.
Established in 2007 by Professor Colleen Nelson, the APCRC – Q is modeled on the successful Vancouver Prostate Centre at Vancouver General Hospital in Canada, of which Prof Nelson is a co-founder. It focuses exclusively on prostate cancer, and is a hub for prostate cancer research in Brisbane. It is assembled into a multidisciplinary framework that integrates research activities from discovery through to clinical trials. We seek to link to multiple Institutes with advanced technologies in Queensland, in order to encourage and foster applications of their respective expertise to prostate cancer. The APCRC – Q also collaborates with major prostate cancer research groups and relevant clinical societies, both in Australia and overseas.
