Professor Robert E. Reiter, MD MBA

Bing Professor of Urologic Research
Director, Prostate Cancer Program
Department of Urology
University of California, Los Angeles

'Overview of the UCLA Prostate Cancer Program: a multidisciplinary translational approach to discovery and management'

Robert E Reiter is a Professor in the Department of Urology and a full-time member of the Molecular Biology Institute. He was recently appointed to the Bing Professorship in Urologic Research, and is Director of the Prostate Cancer Treatment and Research Program in the Department of Urology and the newly developed Institute of Urologic Oncology. He also serves as Director of Urological Research in the Department of Urology and co-Director of the Genitourinary Cancer Program Area in the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Prof Reiter completed his clinical urologic training at Baylor College of Medicine and his fellowship training in urologic oncology at both the National Cancer Institute and UCLA. Since joining the UCLA faculty 13 years ago, he has established a successful and well-funded basic science and clinical research program, while at the same time maintaining a strong commitment to teaching, clinical practice and university service.

His scientific work has been recognized internationally. He was elected into the American Society for Clinical Investigation and received the Young Investigator Award from the Society for Urologic Oncology in 2004.

Perhaps most importantly, he has played a vital role in developing and leading the prostate cancer program at UCLA. He is currently the Principal Investigator of a SPORE (Specialized Program in Research) grant in Prostate Cancer at UCLA. This 12 million dollar program project grant was awarded as competitive renewals in 2007 and 2013. Prof Reiter succeeded Dr. Jean deKernion as PI of this program, having served as co-PI for the first award from 2001-2006.

He completed his MBA studies at the Anderson School, graduating in 2007, and currently serves as the PI of a California Institute for Regenerative Medicine grant and as a member of the Stand Up to Cancer's West Coast Dream Team.
