Biography
Ms Sugarniya completed her Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. She also obtained a Master of Science degree in Molecular and Applied Microbiology at the Univesity of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.
Then, she was selected for the position of teaching assistant at the Department of Science and Technology, Uwa Wellassa Univrsity, Sri Lanka. She is a member of the Genome Society, one of the prestigious societies of scientists in Sri Lanka.
She has recently moved to Australia to pursue her PhD under the supervision of Associate Professor Jyotsna Batra, Dr Varinder Jeet and Distinguished Professor Judith Clements at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), located at Translational Research Institute (TRI). Her current project focuses on Functional role of the MCAT and PDK1 genes in prostate cancer and their regulation by miRNAs.
