Biography
Dr Sonika Tyagi is a Bioinformatician who obtained her Advanced Postgraduate Diploma and PhD in Bioinformatics from the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India. During her PhD she received a research exchange award to visit University of Queensland in Australia and worked with Dr Tim Bailey at the Institute for Molecular Biosciences.
Her research focus is on developing computational methods to retrieve knowledge from vast amount of data being generated using high throughput techniques and biological experiments. She has developed bioinformatics tools and applications using machine learning, data mining and statistical approaches. These software tools are open source and available to users via free web interfaces.
From November 2010 to May 2011, she worked for the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre- Queensland in the role of a biostatistician.

oncogenomics, miRNA and miRNA target prediction, microarray data analysis and next-generation sequence annotation
