Biography

Mandy Chandler (nee van Staden) completed a double degree in Chemistry and Applied Chemistry, followed by an Honours degree in Chemistry at the University of the Witwatersrand before taking up a research position with African Explosives and Chemical Industries Ltd in Johannesburg, South Africa.

After two years in research, Mandy attended the University of Pretoria where she completed a Masters degree by research in Organometallic Chemistry and Computational Crystallography. She published her master's thesis: The Synthesis and Characterisation of Bithiophene Complexes in 2001 and this research lead to two publications in international journal, Inorganica Chimica Acta.

In 1998, Mandy took up a position in the research department of a powder coating company then known as Courtauld's Coatings, which soon after became Akzo Nobel Powder Coatings. Here she developed skills in paint and powder coating technology.

In late 1999, Mandy left Akzo Nobel to take up a position as Laboratory Manager at the University of Johannesburg.
