Metformin, the first line pharmacotherapy for type 2 diabetes has demonstrated favourable effects in prostate cancer (PCa) across a range of studies evaluating PCa patient outcomes amongst metformin users. This review by Dr Gunter et al highlights the potential of metformin to be repurposed as an anticancer agent, warranting further investigation of metformin in the setting of PCa.

The month of Movember is a busy one for APCRC-Q as we go into overdrive raising funds for a cause that is close to all our hearts – men’s health.

This Movember, APCRC-Q raised $5,445 thanks to the efforts of our wonderful team. We kicked off the month with a bake sale and backed that up with a pop-up nail salon. Our next event was a fabulous Beer Tasting evening in conjunction with Semi-Pro Brewery in South Brisbane. Meanwhile, our Movember Badminton Sunday session at South Bank TAFE has become an annual event and was as popular as ever this year.

Finally, we tried something a little different hosting the first ever Movember Recovery Breakfast. The turnout surpassed our expectations and it proved to be a great success.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped out arranging events, participated and donated time and money to this fantastic and important cause. Special mention to our top fundraisers: Nettie Ringuet who raised $1,505; Dr Jenni Gunter who, in addition to baking the mo-st adorable mo-biscuits, raised $1,330; and Dr Nathalie Bock who raised $1,000.
